Autumn
Woodsmoke, honey, cider, whiskey, surfing, octopus. Ah, Fall.
Autumn wants to play, to ruffle our jackets, whisk us up in swirls of leaves, give us chills. It’s everybody’s favorite season. In spite of the asteroid currently headed toward Earth.
Agent K: “There’s always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Korilian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable planet. The only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they do not know about it!” But the Men in Black haven’t vanquished the evil aliens or the intergalactic plague. We know.
Now what? We’re volunteering, donating, face-masking, social distancing, voting, crossing our fingers, checking the f***ing news every g**d*** second, trying to stay calm, and. It. Is. Not. Working.
But autumn is so short. So let’s wolf down this brief, capricious season like a slice of warm pumpkin pie. Let’s breathe the air, look at the colors, take our autumn time, take it, it’s ours. Nutmeg, changing leaves, corduroy, cinnamon, wood smoke, flannel, hot cocoa, frost, wool socks, everything. Let’s share it all however we can, even if it has to be shoehorned between high priorities—we can squeeze it in.
We need our strength. BIG strength for the coming zombie apocalypse and stuff. Little joys, happy jiffies are the powerups that will get us through.

Dedicated Citizens
With fever-pitch passions burning and hyperbolic words and pictures exploding all around, it’s possible for some important things to get lost in the fray. We’ve seen the banners and heard the slogans, but do we know the details of what each candidate is proposing? Do we know where they stand on all of the issues that we care about? Think of your vote as a golden coin that you drop in the slot for your candidate. It’s indescribably valuable and once it’s gone it’s gone. You want to be sure you’re spending it wisely. Speaking of spending wisely, you can support the project here.

Listening

Yeah Yeah Yeah
Cayucas
If you’re a super-Alpha person who would rather punch someone than listen to them talk about their garden, and you start honking at the car in front of you before the light even changes, one of two things will happen now: You will skip over this song as just another squishy-ass barefoot alt thing and go on banging the “Ring Me” bell as you watch the bank teller rushing to the window; or you will collapse in a heap of regret for your life-shortening stress out of an existence, scramble, sobbing to the airport, dash to Huntington Beach, buy a surfboard, catch a wave and never look back.
For the rest of us, let’s unwind. These beach boys celebrate being Californian and share the joy of being young enough to be sublimely cool, but old enough to turn their nostalgic triumphs and regrets into sunny, laid-back musical gold. Yeah Yeah.Yeah
Watching

My Octopus Teacher
Netflix | Craig Foster, Directed by Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed
There is an involving mixture of hope and dread in this unexpectedly tender documentary. A broken man has lost his moorings and with nowhere else to go returns to his coastal town in South Africa. He befriends an octopus on the floor of the kelp forest and visits her every single day. Through their relationship, he joins the near-mystical world of this underwater neighborhood and comes to realize how deeply everything depends on everything else. The human-invented division between us and nature is false; it’s all us and we’re all it. Ringo Starr wrote it first, but Craig Foster lived it for a year, and as catchy as the song is, the film will go a lot deeper into your heart.Hideaway beneath the waves

Considering how much more of the world’s activity has moved online, we’ve been putting a lot of energy into simplifying and sharpening our services to be more efficient and more effective, over the longer-term. We know that just building a great brand isn’t enough, creating a strong online presence isn’t enough, having a great social content strategy, great blog content, catchy emails, and SEO/SEM, are not enough.
They should all work together, living, breathing, earning the attention they get, and the actions they prompt. We know how to do that, and we’d love to do it for you.
